Man, the last few weeks have been jam-packed with international racing action! First: was the International Six Days Enduro that pitted each country’s elite off-road racers against each other. The event was as grueling as ever but, as the sun set on day six, it was Spain’s Ivan Cervantes walking away with the E1 victory. It was the misfortune of another KTM rider in the waning moments of the week that gave Cervantes the ’08 ISDE title. Juha Salminen, after leading much of the race, suffered a crash during the final motocross test that, ultimately, cost him the title despite winning more individual tests than any other competitor. The 2008 ISDE was overwhelmingly dominated by the orange machines, as about half of the 454 competitors who lined up on day one swung their legs over KTMs.

Then, the 2009 Red Bull Motocross of Nations ramped up at Donington Park in England. The Team USA trio of James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto and Tim Ferry was the heavy favorite coming into the race but several untimely crashes kept the competition close. In his final race in Europe, Red Bull/KTM’s Tommy Searle rode the wheels off his SXF250 to a strong third-place in the Open and MX2 moto. In spite of some early problems, the US squad survived to hoist the The Chamberlain Trophy in front of the thousands of fans who stuck out the chilly conditions at this year’s MXoN. Congrats to Team USA!

David Knight - Unadilla
Speaking of surviving, Red Bull/KTM rider David Knight had to trudge through some horrendous conditions to clinch the win at the Unadilla GNCC. New York native Nathan Kanney was gunning for his KTM teammate at his home-state race but came up short in the mud-drenched season finale. Knight rolled into the Unadilla Valley Sports Center with no realistic hopes of winning the championship but a massive fuel miscalculation by series leader Paul Whibley handed the series title to Knight on the final lap. Congrats Knighter! |

Red Bull is at it again!
While surfing the web recently, I ran into some info about an upcoming Red Bull event ominously name the Red Bull Metalicross. After digging a little deeper, this is what I found on their website…
“Red Bull Metallicross is an all-new motocross event concept- 80% dirt, 20% everything else: concrete, steel, wood, asphalt, aluminum and city. The track will be a blend of the best disciplines: motocross, supercross, endurocross & arenacross along with a Mad Max inspired closed-course design”
