Tommy Weeck

After being sidelined from motocross due to a horrific accident, Tommy Weeck is back in action, and bigger than ever. Since his return, Tommy has changed his number. While most of us are used to seeing Tommy run the #41 on his bike, he will now be seen running the #184. Even though Tommy missed out on some nationals last year due to an injury, he has opted to make the step up to the pro class, and he’s already putting in some good, solid results. Tommy is anxiously awaiting his return to racing, and he will be doing so at Lake Whitney and Oak Hill. He is hoping to put together solid results throughout the year, and hopefully make his venture into the professional ranks after Loretta Lynn's. We sit down to get the scoop on what Tommy Weeck is up to, and find out some of his plans for the future.

 Tommy, we noticed that you have been running the #184 rather than the #41 that we are so used to seeing you run. It seems that when you made your return after your recent injury, you made the transition over to the #184. Does the new number signify a new Tommy Weeck? Explain.

About four years ago, I stayed with Ryan Huffman, and he was training me, and we talked about number changes, and that number came up and it was Jason McCormick's first pro national number, and he got 4th his first race I believe it was. So this year I just wanted somthing new and I liked that number!

You were out at the Gold Cup race this past Sunday, and you were on the gas! Was this your debut racing the "A" class?
No. I raced Day In The Dirt in the A class and I did a R.E.M. race too!

You had some good battles with Dean Wilson and Christian Craig, which signifies that you are on top of your game. What have you been doing since your return to racing to prepare yourself for the 2009 amateur nationals?
Just on the ryno program. [laughs] But yeah, you know, we are just doing whatever we have to do to be on top this year!

The last time you raced a national, you were still running the "B" class. Now, you are going to be running the "A" class. Is there anything that you have changed to your riding or training program to make the step up to the next level?
Don't over rev!!

Are you staying with the KTM Factory Junior team throughout the 2009 season?
Yes I am.

Do you plan on attending Lake Whitney and Oak Hill, and making your "A" class debut to the national circuit?
Yes, I will be racing Whitney and Oak Hill.

This will be your first time racing an amateur national since you were injured last year. What are you expectations from yourself in Texas?
To ride the best that I can ride, and that should put me where I want to be!

 Do you feel that all of the lost time you took off when you were hurt has hindered your ability at all to run with the front of the pack? Or, do you feel that you can pick up right where you left off in the "B" class, winning championships?
I definitely don't feel like I have lost anything, if anything, I feel like I gained more drive and desire from the time off that I had. It was a nice little break, but I'm ready to get back to racing!

Lets fast forward a little bit into the future. Loretta Lynn's is only about 6 months away, which isn't really all that long from now. Do you have any plans for what you will do after Loretta's?
The plan for now is to race the last four outdoor nagtionals for team KTM.
